The old townhouse on the corner of Oberdorfstrasse and Scheitergasse, halfway between Rämistrasse and Grossmünster, is situated in a prominent corner site within Zurich's old town. The noble location is also expressed inside in the bright corner room, which is richly decorated with a baroque wall and ceiling panelling. A wall painting, which is dated to pre-Reformation times, is located on the firewall to the adjacent room and shows an exotic bird in a vine motif.

The major challenge in this construction project was to enable a timely restoration, taking into account the historically relevant finds, the demands on statics and fire protection, the limited access possibilities and the tight space conditions on site.
